The predecessor of China Ship Research Institute was the 7th Research Institute of the Ministry of National Defense, established by the Central Government in 1961 to meet the development needs of naval weapons and equipment. As a prefecture-level public institution, its core mission is the R&D and design of military ships, laying a solid foundation for China's national defense cause. In the 1980s, the state adjusted its national defense construction policy and clearly proposed the "military-civilian integration" strategy, encouraging military-industrial enterprises to revitalize idle workshops, equipment and talent resources to engage in the R&D and production of civilian products on the basis of successfully completing military production tasks, injecting new vitality into national economic construction.
In response to the national call and the "military-to-civilian" strategy, the 7th Research Institute established a strategic cooperation with Zhongyuan Oilfield in 1986. Leveraging its strong military-industrial technological accumulation, it vigorously entered the oil logging field and strived to develop the internationally advanced logging system at that time—the 520 Numerical Control Logging System, marking the start of a new cross-border development journey. For operational convenience, the 7th Research Institute officially registered and established Huali Petroleum Equipment Development Center in 1991. In 1994, Lu Jianxun, chief engineer of the 520 Numerical Control Logging System, was elected as one of the first academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. In 1999, the 13-mu production base located in Changping Science and Technology Park was successfully completed. Huali Center moved from the 7th Research Institute to Changping and was officially renamed Huanding Energy Services, implementing the operation system of "one institution, two names" together with the Petroleum Equipment Engineering Department of the 7th Research Institute, laying a solid foundation for the company's corporate operation and standardized development. In 2015, Huanding upgraded its strategic layout by purchasing 97 mu of land in Gu'an, 50 kilometers south of Tiananmen Square, and establishing Hebei Huanding as a wholly-owned subsidiary, further expanding production space and development footprint. In 2018, the 7th Research Institute established the Institute's Manufacturing Center and Quality Inspection Center relying on Huanding, marking that Huanding's military-civilian integration development entered a new stage.
Science and technology are the primary productive forces, and innovation is the core engine of enterprise development. Adhering to the perseverance of "forging a sword for ten years", the military researchers of the 7th Research Institute successfully developed the 520 Series Numerical Control Logging System in 1996, which passed the technical appraisal presided over by the State Science and Technology Commission and was listed as a National Key New Product in 1997, demonstrating the company's strong technological R&D capabilities. Since then, Huanding has continued to deepen technological innovation and successively launched a series of industry-leading products such as the 521 Series Numerical Control Logging System, 530/HH2530 Rapid Platform Logging System, 580 Network Transmission Imaging Logging System, and Cable Storage Dual-Mode Imaging Logging System. In 2010, accurately grasping market demand, the company crossed over into the downhole operation tools field and successfully developed a variety of high-performance instruments including high-power hydraulic crawlers, slim-hole large-particle rotary sidewall coring tools, and electric downhole cutters, continuously enriching its product matrix.
Upholding the development concept of open cooperation, Huanding established a strategic partnership with Halliburton Company, a world-renowned enterprise, in 2001 to jointly produce P-type Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Imaging Logging Tools, EXCELL2000, and LOGIQ-B Surface Systems. The two parties have worked together for more than 20 years, becoming a model of international cooperation in the industry.
Over 40 years of dedicated development, Huanding originated from the military-industrial sector and grew into a leader in the oil logging equipment field.
